M-Kyala Ventures Analyst Job Description

M-Kyala Ventures, is a specialized strategy and advisory firm that supports organizations to develop pathways for gender inclusion to enable equitable access to opportunities and resources for women as entrepreneurs, employees, consumers, and value chain contributors.

The company has offices and is incorporated in Kenya and Uganda and has supported several gender integration projects  and impacted over 500 women. Our work centers on supporting organizations to better leverage the value of gender engagement and inclusion across operations and strategies by developing and taking collaborative systems change approaches to address structural macro and micro issues that affect gender equality.

In 2023 we launched M-Kyala Capital which is our finance access arm that develops lending and credit products for women entrepreneurs.

Role description

We are looking for two entry to mid entry level candidates for the role of Analyst for our offices in Nairobi and Kampala. If you are interested in building a career in gender lens investing and are passionate about women’s economic empowerment this is the role for you. 

Responsibilities include;
  1. Actively participating in pipeline building activities for the M-Kyala fund, some of which will include sourcing and screening.
  2. Performing business evaluation and assessments as instructed. Part of this process will involve site visits and meetings with entrepreneurs.
  3. Participating in due diligence activities including but not limited to financial analysis, business model analysis and impact assessment.
  4. Take part in the preparation of investment and project reports such as investment memos, project progress reports and  impact reports
  5. Take part in business development activities such as partnership building and proposal writing
  6. Participate in research activities such as desk research, key informant interviews and internal thematic area research activities
  7. Participate in ongoing and new projects as assigned performing tasks including but not limited to research, project structuring and analysis, report writing, and additional supportive tasks as assigned by the project leader
  8. Represent the company at entrepreneurial ecosystem events and forums.
  9. Perform other duties as may be required from time to time.
Experience and skills required;
  1.  Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Banking, Business Administration or related field
  2. At least 2 years of work experience with a specialization in financial or business analysis
  3. Experience in project management as part of a project team within a consulting firm, financial institution, audit firm or enterprise support organization would be an added advantage
  4. Experience with report writing
  5. Ability to work with Microsoft office as well as quick adaptability to key reporting and analytical digital tools
  6. Excellent command in spoken and written English is a MUST 
  7. Attention to detail
  8. Understanding of local entrepreneurial ecosystem is an advantage
